Over this past weekend, the Cabinet Office announced the appointment of The Hon. Hope Strachan, Member of Parliament for Sea Breeze, as the new Minister of Financial Services with effect from Monday, January 12th, 2015. Minister Strachan previously served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, a position she held since May, 2012. She was appointed to the Senate in 2007 by the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie, then Leader of the Opposition Progressive Liberal Party.

The new Minister has pledged to do her very best *“to ensure that I build on what has already been established and do something creative to make my mark on the industry.”* She referenced the positioning of this jurisdiction as a financial hub, noting *“We are very strategically placed in terms of Central and South America, North America and even in terms of Europe. We have the opportunity to increase our trading opportunities.”*

BFSB CEO Aliya Allen today said, *“BFSB looks forward to continuing the cooperative relationship with the Ministry of Financial Services.”*

The Minister studied at Holborn Law Tutors, London, England where she obtained an LLB (Honours) degree from the University of London. After being sworn in as a Member of Middle Temple Inn, she was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1989 and subsequently to the Bahamas Bar that same year. She maintained a successful civil and commercial law practice under the name Hope Strachan & Co.
