On October 14-15, the Bahamas Financial Services Board, the Rotary Club of East Nassau, and Rotary Sunrise will join forces to sponsor a Careers Fest at Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort and Spa. The event is being co-sponsored by the Ministries of Education, Finance, and Financial Services and Investments.

Targetting senior level grades in the public and private secondary schools, the upcoming Careers Fest is being sponsored as part of BFSB’s ongoing Financial Centre Focus (FCF) public awareness and education programme.

FCF seeks to integrate the industry with the wider community, and its various initiatives address issues such as (a) challenges impacting the sustained growth and development of the industry; (b) improvements to the level of service; and (c) attracting and maintaining qualified professionals. Particular attention is placed on highlighting the importance of quality human resources to the industry.

This year, exhibits will be manned by Industry Professional Associations and Regulators, with each providing details on career options in the respective sectors. A selected number of corporate sponsors will host exhibits, providing a more comprehensive view of the services available in the sector. Additionally, the Ministries of Finance and Financial Services and Investments will man exhibits profiling the career opportunities within their respective Ministries and Departments.

The College of the Bahamas also will host exhibits highlighting the financial services training opportunities available through its School of Business and Centre for Continuing Education.

Complementing the exhibits will be a Lecture Series, covering academic training and skills sets for the various disciplines within financial services. The College of the Bahamas, the Lyford Cay Foundation, Central Bank of the Bahamas, and Bahamas Human Resources Development Association are collaborating with BFSB and other sponsors in coordinating the lectures.

BFSB’s CEO & Executive Director Wendy C. Warren explains that the overall objective of the two-day event is to profile the wide range of careers in the financial services industry. The Hon. Veronica Owens, M.P., Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, will open Careers Fest on Thursday morning.
