Hon. Allyson Maynard-Gibson, M.P.
Minister of Financial Services and Investments

**Brokers & Agents and General Business**

Minister Allyson Maynard-Gibson presented opening remarks today at the 2004 Education Conference hosted by the Bahamas Insurance Brokers Association.

She congratulated BIBA for its leadership in promoting the professional status of insurance brokers and agents within The Bahamas, and also in encouraging the highest standards of professional etiquette and quality of service offered by brokers and agents.

The Minister challenged the association to pursue networking and social interactions not only amongst its members, but with other insurance brokers within this region and around the world – promoting improved quality of service to clients and an immediate response to global trends. *”This would ensure that Bahamian brokers and agents become an integral part of the global experience, and become competitive on an international level,”*she said.

Also seen as imperative was collaboration with other local insurance associations to ensure proper education and dissemination of relevant information, as was continued input to the Registrar of Insurance Companies on the completion of the new Domestic Insurance Bill. *”Such collaboration can only result in greater public confidence in the sector itself and in the quality of the regulatory framework in which the industry operates,”*said Minister Maynard-Gibson.
