The Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers will recognise the “Compliance Officer of the Year” at its annual Awards Programme on Saturday, February 7.

This award recognises the Compliance Professional who has distinguished him/herself by enhancing the area of anti-money laundering and/or compliance within his/her respective financial institution and The Bahamas at large.

The award recipient will receive a fully-paid scholarship to attend the tripartite BACO/International Compliance Association/Bahamas Institute of Financial Services Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering International Diploma Course. For those already enrolled in the programme, the award will be $2000 towards attendance at an international compliance/anti-money laundering conference during 2004 (winner’s choice).

The Graduation Ceremony for the successful candidates of the International Diploma Course will be part of the programme on the 7th. These graduates will be given the right to use the designation Int. Dip (Comp.ML). Representatives of the ICA in London and BIFS will be participating in the ceremony.

The combined Professional Diploma Course is to be offered in Switzerland, the British Virgin Islands, Barbados, Hong Kong and a special Asian version is to be launched from Singapore in association with PricewaterhouseCoopers (Singapore). BACO is proud to have been at the fore in the creation of this joint certification.

During Saturday’s programme, an award will be presented to BACO’s Special Honoree, Wendy C. Warren, the CEO and Executive Director of the Bahamas Financial Services Board.

BACO was inaugurated in 1999 with the mandate of providing a forum for Compliance Officers to freely discuss issues related to the execution of their duties and to network and educate themselves on issues of compliance. The association maintains a close co-operative working relationship with the regulators and offers assistance in the review of relevant laws, procedures and best practice. Hence, the motto of the Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers: **”Committed to Compliance”.**
