A “Call for Applications” for licences to operate public fixed radiocommunications systems and provide telecommunications services has been issued by the Public Utilities Commission. This is part of its ongoing effort to facilitate increased availability of high quality telecommunications services for Bahamian consumers – at lower prices – in accordance with the telecommunications liberalisation plans of the National Telecommunications Sector Policy.

Applications for such licences have been invited from interested and qualified parties for the provision of fixed telecommunications services by means of public fixed radiocommunications (wireless) systems, using all of the spectrum in the following radio frequency bands:

a) 2150-2162 MHz
b) 2500-2690 NHz

Voice telecommunication services are excluded until January 1, 2004.

Application documents may be obtained from the PUC’s Offices at:

Fourth Terrace East
