Michael Allen | Partner, Higgs & Johnson

Michael Allen has professional expertise in corporate and commercial law, including derivatives law as it relates to the participation by Bahamian entities in financial derivatives transactions, real estate & development, aviation law and wealth management.

For 30 years Michael has advised international and Bahamian clientele on a variety of corporate and commercial structures for general business and wealth management purposes. His practice involves acting as a transactional lawyer in commercial and aviation matters, providing legal support to major Bahamian real estate acquisitions and resort development, the utilization of financial products connected with investment and wealth management concerns, and issuing formal opinions on a wide range of multi-jurisdictional structures available for the conduct of business in and through The Bahamas, including structures connected to aircraft financing.

Michael is Chair of the firm’s Aviation practice group and, currently serves as chairman of the Bahamas Air Transport Advisory Board. He is the author and co-author, respectively, of the Bahamas chapter of Sweet & Maxwell publications Aircraft Finance: Regulation Security and Enforcement and Aircraft Liens and Detention Rights. He is a former Chairman of the Bahamas Financial Services Board and has written on such topics as “International Business Companies”, and “A Guide to Doing Business in the Bahamas”.

After attaining a post graduate degree in counselling and administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo, United States, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Buckingham in England, Michael was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales in 1987 and to the Bahamas Bar in 1988. He is also a member of the Honourable Society of The Middle Temple, England. Michael joined the firm as a partner in 2008.
