European Private Banking Summit

BFSB CEO & Executive Director Wendy C. Warren was a presenter at the 9th European Private Banking Summit in Zurich, September 1-3, 2010.

The summit was held under the theme: Restructuring Global Wealth Management – The Road Ahead, while Ms. Warren’s topic was “International Financial Centres: Relevance in Next Generation of Private Banking.

Search is On for FSI Student of the Year

The Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) is looking to recognise an outstanding 2010 Graduate from within the School of Business, College of the Bahamas.

This initiative is a joint venture of BFSB, the College of the Bahamas and the Central Bank of the Bahamas, in collaboration with the Professional Industry Association Working Group (PIAWG) - a representative body for the various financial services industry-related associations here in The Bahamas.

The criterion for initial selection is based on academic performance as demonstrated by GPA. Additional criteria include COB and community involvement, special interests, further education, and work/other experience. Last week, the Selection Committee completed interviews with the finalists, who will be announced shortly. The final phase of the judging process includes the interviews and a written submission from each candidate. The 2010 “Student of the Year” will be recognised at BFSB’s Annual Industry Excellence Awards Ceremony on October 21.

BFSB continues to provide updates to members and the business community generally on the development of strategy in the industry. It recognises that this is an important time for all industry stakeholders to engage with ideas and action to secure growth in the industry.

Identifying the best opportunities for growth and positioning The Bahamas brand require an enabling business and regulatory environment. The perspectives of existing industry participants are the most important. In this regard, BFSB has encouraged industry members to complete a survey on Barriers to Business. As is the case with all information secured by BFSB, the information will be collated with the names of the persons who submit responses held in the strictest of confidence. Further, to encourage the widest possible response, the inclusion of the name and company are optional; BFSB does, however, require information on the nature of the business conducted in The Bahamas and work experience.

Financial Services Industry SCRIPT

Titled SCRIPT, the approach will allow the government, regulators and industry to channel policy, legislative and marketing resources into areas that offer the greatest potential for success.
